Sean Bishton returned to Charleston County School District this year, where he formerly taught as a middle school math coach supporting instruction and student achievement across multiple schools. Mr. Bishton brings more than 30 years of experience in education. A native of South Africa, he brings a global perspective to his work, shaped by leadership roles at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Mr. Bishton will work closely with Executive Associate and St. John’s High School leader Vanessa Denney to ensure a strong and thoughtful transition for students, staff, and families. Their collaboration will support continuity, strengthen school leadership, and build on the relationships and momentum already in place within the St. John’s community. 

Vanessa Denney has proudly served the students, families, and schools of Charleston County School District for more than 20 years. She is passionate about building strong schools, meaningful community partnerships, and opportunities that help every student thrive. Her work as the founding principal of Early College High School, a nationally recognized model that expanded college and career opportunities for students, showcases her commitment to innovative leadership, collaborative problem-solving, and ensuring students have the support they need to reach their full potential. She currently serves as Executive Associate of Strategy, Partnerships, and Planning and School Leader of St. John’s High School. She is excited to work with St. John's as it charts new directions.

Ms. Adkins truly embodies what it means to love and serve the Johns Island community. She feels fortunate every day to laugh, learn, and support the amazing students, teachers, and staff at St. John’s. As a former math and science teacher, her passion for education shines through in her commitment to strong curriculum and instruction, as well as her dedication to meeting every student where they are through thoughtful supports and interventions. Outside of school, you can find Ms. Adkins staying active—running, hiking, or enjoying time by the water with family and friends.
