Principal Steve LarsenPrincipal Stephen Larson

Stephen Larson joined the District in November 2016 from Broward County Public Schools in Florida where he previously served as a principal.

After having served in an interim capacity as principal within the District, as well as successfully leading the District 9 Task Force over the past several months, Larson has emerged as a proven candidate for the principalship. Current St. John’s principal, Andre Dukes, announced his resignation to students and staff today in order to take another position in Greenville County School District this spring.

“Mr. Larson is a proven leader in the education field,” said CCSD Executive Director of Secondary Learning, Kim Wilson. “His ability to build quality relationships with all stakeholders will endear him to the St. Johns community. We are fortunate to have someone of his caliber to step in and continue to provide quality leadership at St. Johns High School.”

Larson has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a specialization in Spanish and a Masters in Special Education from the University of Oregon. He completed his Ed.S. at Portland State University in 2008.

PRINCIPAL LARSON'S MESSAGE

Greetings!

My name is Steve Larson and I have the honor of being the Principal of St. Johns High School. Although I have been on board for less than a week, I have come to learn of the many reasons why this is such a wonderful place to live, learn, work and succeed.

As your principal, I hope to become a trusted member of your family. Your students are our top priority, every day, and we will work to ensure we are doing everything we can to ensure post-high school success.

I know that since your child was in elementary school, you have heard that parental involvement is one of the keys to student achievement. This remains, even in high school, a critical component.

We will be having many discussions over the next year or so to explore ways we can become a closer community, and significantly raise our levels of achievement and graduation rates. Please come join the discussion.

There are three District 9 (St. Johns and Wadmalaw Island) listening sessions left. Please stop by the school or give us a call to find out where they are being held and at what time.

If you are a St. Johns Alumni, we will be having a specific discussion for you. We will be discussing traditions, achievement, and community involvement. This is scheduled for April 27th, at 6:00 in the Auditorium.

Again, I am so pleased to be the principal of this great school. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help your child's time with us the very best it can be!
